The theme adapted for the workshop is “KERALA SANGEETHAM” (Music of Kerala) applied to mohiniyattam.
Kerala has a rich musical system comprising of a wide range of Taalas, (rhythmic patterns) ragas and also a unique style of rendering of many ragas prevalent in Karnatic Music. Such styles of music is applied in some rituals and traditional art forms like Ottan Thullal, and as a performing art it is still alien to the common public and even connoisseurs.
Three different Gurus will be leading the workshop each of these three days, covering three different aspects, i.e.;
Kerala Taala System; introduction and application in different ritual forms.
Kerala Ragas:
(a) Ragas applied in Sopana Sangeetham and ritualistic forms.
b) Comparison of Kerala Ragas with Karnatic and Hindustani Music styles.
Application of Kerala Talas in Adavu’s of Mohiniyattam. We believe, applying this musical style will help the Mohiniyattam to develop its character and repertoire more as a classical dance from Kerala.
